GEORGIA PAYCHECK GUIDE

How a Georgia paycheck estimate works

Georgia changed its 2026 individual income-tax rate from 5.19% to 4.99%, with the updated withholding rate available beginning May 11, 2026. The state percentage method also uses Georgia standard deductions and dependent allowances. This free page intentionally provides a simplified estimate rather than reproducing the full Form G-4 withholding process.

The calculator starts with gross pay. For hourly workers, gross pay is regular hours multiplied by the hourly rate plus overtime hours at a basic 1.5-times rate. For salary workers, annual salary is divided by the selected number of pay periods. It then estimates federal income tax, employee Social Security, employee Medicare, the supported Georgia amount, and user-entered deductions.

Georgia state income tax and withholding

The planning rate shown by this page is 4.99% simplified. The calculator annualizes wages, subtracts a basic Georgia standard deduction of $30,000 for married filing jointly or $15,000 for other supported statuses, applies 4.99%, and divides the result by pay frequency. It does not model every Form G-4 allowance or special rule. Actual withholding can differ because of state forms, exemptions, credits, payroll tables, taxable-wage definitions, employer configuration, and rounding.

Local income taxes in Georgia

Georgia uses a statewide individual income tax. Georgia cities and counties generally do not add a broad local wage income tax to employee paychecks. Local sales and property taxes are different and are not included in this paycheck estimate.

Federal withholding is separate

Federal income-tax withholding is not replaced by the state calculation. It depends on annualized wages and the employee’s federal Form W-4 selections. This free tool supports a filing-status choice but does not reproduce every W-4 step, multiple-job adjustment, dependent credit, additional withholding amount, or year-to-date payroll condition.

Social Security and Medicare

Employee FICA normally includes Social Security and Medicare. These payroll taxes are separate from federal income tax and separate from Georgia income tax. High earners, workers who reach an annual Social Security wage base, and employees subject to Additional Medicare Tax can see results that differ from this simplified one-paycheck estimate.

Important Georgia paycheck considerations

  • Simplified 4.99% Georgia rate for current 2026 estimates
  • Basic annual standard-deduction adjustment by filing status
  • No dependent-allowance worksheet in the free calculator
  • No local wage tax added
  • Federal withholding and FICA are calculated separately

Overtime, bonuses, commissions, tips, shift differentials, holiday pay, and deductions can all change taxable wages. A pre-tax health premium may affect taxable wages differently from a Roth retirement contribution or a post-tax deduction. This basic web calculator accepts one combined deduction amount after estimating taxes; it does not classify each deduction for federal or state tax purposes.

How to use this calculator

1. Choose hourly or salary pay

Select the pay type that matches the paycheck you want to estimate. Enter the annual salary for salary pay, or enter the hourly rate and hours for hourly pay.

2. Match the pay frequency

Choose weekly, every two weeks, twice monthly, or monthly. Biweekly and semimonthly payrolls are not the same: biweekly usually produces 26 paychecks per year, while semimonthly usually produces 24.

3. Review the result as an estimate

Compare the estimated breakdown with a recent paystub. Differences may point to benefit deductions, local or state programs, W-4 elections, employer rounding, year-to-date limits, or payroll items not represented in this free calculator.
