Estimates use simplified federal and state assumptions. Local taxes, exact withholding tables, deductions, credits, and special payroll programs are not included.

How to calculate salary per paycheck

Divide annual salary by the number of paychecks received each year. Common schedules use 52 weekly, 26 biweekly, 24 semimonthly, or 12 monthly paychecks.

Formula: annual salary ÷ paychecks per year = gross salary per paycheck.

Salary paycheck example

A $78,000 annual salary paid biweekly produces 26 gross paychecks of $3,000 before taxes and deductions.

$78,000 ÷ 26 = $3,000 gross pay per paycheck

Salary pay frequencies

Pay schedule Typical paychecks per year $78,000 example
Weekly 52 $1,500.00
Biweekly 26 $3,000.00
Semimonthly 24 $3,250.00
Monthly 12 $6,500.00

Use the schedule shown by your employer. Biweekly and semimonthly are not the same.

What the take-home estimate includes

The calculator applies simplified federal income-tax, Social Security, Medicare, and state income-tax estimates. It does not apply complete Form W-4 withholding tables, local taxes, deductions, credits, or employer-specific payroll methods.

Why an actual salary paycheck may differ

Actual payroll can vary because of benefits, retirement contributions, bonuses, commissions, unpaid leave, retroactive pay, local taxes, year-to-date wage limits, and detailed withholding elections.
